The number of coronavirus cases in South Africa has risen to 599 940 after 3 880 new cases were confirmed in the past 24 hours.
The Department of Health says 159 additional COVID-19 related deaths were recorded on Thursday, bringing the total death toll in the country to 12 618.
“27 deaths from the Eastern Cape, 83 from Gauteng, 36 from KwaZulu-Natal, 25 from the Free State, 12 from Limpopo and 13 from the Western Cape,” reads a statement from the Health Department.
The Western Cape still has the highest number of fatalities in the country with 3 688 followed by Gauteng and the Eastern Cape with 3 144 and 2 696 respectively.
The total number of recoveries is 497 169, translating to a total recovery rate of 82%.
