The number of coronavirus cases in South Africa has risen to 589 886 after 2 541 new cases were confirmed in the past 24 hours.
The Department of Health says 143 additional COVID-19 related deaths were recorded on Monday, bringing the total death toll in the country to 11 982.
The the total number of recoveries is 477 671, translating to a total recovery rate of 80%.
“50 deaths from the Eastern Cape, 14 from Gauteng, 14 from KwaZulu-Natal, 3 from Northern Cape, 5 from the Free State, 25 from Mpumalanga and 32 from the Western Cape,” reads a statement from the Health Department.
The Western Cape still has the highest number of fatalities in the country with 3 612 followed by Gauteng and Eastern Cape with 2 929 and 2 567 respectively.
