SA’s COVID-19 cases currently stand at 579 140

The number of coronavirus cases in South Africa country has risen to 579 140 after 6 275 new cases were confirmed in the past 24 hours. The Department of Health says 286 more people have died from COVID-19 related deaths, bringing the total death toll in the country to 11 556.

As of Friday, the total number of recoveries is 461 734, translating to a total recovery rate of 79%.

“42 deaths from the Eastern Cape, 20 from the Free State, 26 from the North West,  76 from Gauteng, 54 from KwaZulu-Natal, 22 from Mpumalanga, 18 from the Northern Cape and 28 from the Western Cape,” reads a statement from Health department.

The Western Cape still has the highest number of fatalities in the country with 3 534 followed by Gauteng and Eastern Cape with 2 867 and 2 442 respectively.
