SA’s best open-water swimmers converge in Jeffrey’s Bay

Some of South Africa’s best open-water swimmers have converged in Jeffrey’s Bay in the Eastern Cape for the first round of the 2018 Swim Series. The series is one of the few Swimming South Africa-sanctioned open-water swimming events in the country.

It offers registered swimmers an opportunity to attain SSA qualifying times to take part in the national championships in March. A number of champion swimmers took part in the 10km race at Marina Martinique in Jeffrey’s Bay.

Many chose this race because the South African Open water championships will take place at the same venue, giving swimmers a good idea of what the championships will be like. This race qualifies as an opportunity for registered swimmers in the country to bag their qualifying time.

Leading the pack, world champion Ana Marcela and South African champ Nico Manoussakis say the water was great and they look forward to the race in March.

All ages came through to get their qualifying times for the national championships. The national championships will be held in Jeffrey’s Bay area in the first week of March. Click below for more on the story:
