Reading Time: < 1 minute

The tax filing season for the 2017 – 2018 financial year starts on Sunday and taxpayers have until October the 31 to submit their returns.

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) is urging taxpayers to submit their tax returns online through the e-filing system.

In February then Finance Minister, Malusi Gigaba announced a tax revenue shortfall of R48.2 billion.

Acting SARS spokesperson Janine Mqulane says e-filing has been made easier.

“Filing season this year does end on the 31st of October, it’s been cut by 3 weeks. You now have 4 months to file your income tax returns. On e-filing, we have an icon called help you e-file. This icon connects you immediately and with your permission to the contact centre gent. So if you get stuck on e-filing, we haven’t left you without support,” explains Mqulane.
