Sardines netted on Durban beaches

The KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board says sardine netting is taking place at Winkelspruit beach on the Kwa-Zulu Natal south coast.

There have also been reports of sardine activity between the Grosvenor and Waterfall Bluff area in the Eastern Cape.

KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board spokesperson Greg Thompson says, “There has been another influx of sardines into the KwaZulu-Natal waters. So we just wanted to go and see what was happening further south. We did find a bit of activity in the area between Grosvenor and Waterfall Bluff and then as we went south we obviously found a lot of dolphin and gannett activity around that area.

“At the moment they are actually netting at Winkelspruit beach as we talk and it sounds like quite a lot of shoals in the background there, big pieces you know that actually look like rugby fields. So theirs still a lot of activity around and theirs a good chance that may continue for a day or two.”
