SAPS officers killed in the line of duty to be honoured

Reading Time: 2 minutes

President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Sunday morning join the families of slain police officers at the South African Police Service (SAPS) Memorial Site at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.

This is to observe the annual South African Police Service Commemoration Day.

At the event, tribute will be paid to SAPS members who lost their lives in the line of duty between April 2020 and March 2021.

It will be streamed live on social media platforms.

Public must unite against those who kill police

Police Minister Bheki Cele says the brutal murder of police officers every week can’t be the norm.

He was speaking during the funeral service of police officer Sharon Mogale in Kempton Park in Ekurhuleni.

Mogale was shot and killed while with another woman officer at a retail store in Tembisa last month.

The four suspects who attacked them also took their service pistols.

Cele has called on members of the public to unite against those who murder police officers.

Minister Bheki Cele delivers eulogy at the late police officer’s funeral:

In July, a police officer was killed during a shootout with wanted suspects in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg.

In August, five suspects were arrested in connection with the murder of two North West police officers, whose charred remains were found in a burnt police van.

Sergeant Mojalefa Molete and Constable Simon Ntekeletsa disappeared while on a routine patrol in Mareetsane village, where they were based.
