SAPS officers in W Cape face DC over firearms theft

Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembinkosi Jula says police officers implicated in the theft of firearms in Bellville and Mitchells Plain on the Cape Flats will appear before a disciplinary hearing on Thursday.

A total of 33 firearms were stolen at these police stations in the recent past.

Jula’s told the National Assembly’s Portfolio Committee on Police that the police officers involved were all suspended pending the outcome of an investigation.

Jula says the officers include station commanders.

He says in Mitchell’s Plain 14 officers were suspended. These include a station commander, a protocol commander and 12 others who had something to do with the booking in and out of firearms.

All those members will appear befor a disciplinary tribunal on Thursday.
