Police are investigating a case of cash-in-transit robbery, murder and attempted murder.

This after a security officer was shot dead and a second sustained a gunshot wound to his chest.

The incident took place during a foiled heist in Linbro Park, north of Johannesburg on Tuesday morning.

Police say the suspects used explosives to blow up the cash van. They also used AK47 rifles during the robbery.

In what appears to be a well-coordinated heist, the suspects even redirected traffic in order to commit the crime.

They used at least six cars to block in the cash van.

The deceased and the hospitalised security guard were in the escort van.

Captain Kay Makhubele says:”Three who were in the van which was carrying money were taken out and made to lie down, and the vehicle was blown off by bombs, fortunately the money was not taken, they were disturbed by the metro vehicle which was responding after seeing that there were cars which were turned back, when they realised that the metro were coming they drove off.”
