Sans Souci student to appear in court for assault

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A 16-year-old former Sans Souci Girls’ High School learner is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a charge of assault.

This follows a physical altercation between the learner and her teacher, Clarissa Venter, in February this year. A video showing the teacher slapping the girl in the face went viral on social media.

Venter laid the assault charge against the Grade 9 learner, who has since moved to another school. The teenager’s mother laid the same charge against Venter.

The teacher is expected to return to work on Tuesday after the school governing body concluded the disciplinary process.

Venter was fined and given a final warning. She also has to go for anger management sessions.
