Sanef chairperson, Mahlatse Mahlase says they are concerned that MultiChoice is silencing views held by a section of society.

The South African National Editors Forum (Sanef) says it wants MultiChoice to explain its decision not to renew its contract with TV channel ANN7 once it ends in August.

The decision was taken amid allegations of irregular payments to the station by MultiChoice.

Sanef chairperson Mahlatse Mahlase says they are concerned that MultiChoice is silencing views held by a section of society.

“It took this major decision that of course could silence an organisation like that. We need further clarity from MultiChoice because we hope their decision is not based on political considerations. Media freedom has to be sacrosanct it has to be protected from any political interest or business dealings. We need MultiChoice to explain taking such a major decision which could lead to thousands of employees losing their jobs,” says Mahlase.
