The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) has urged citizens to make blood donation a daily habit.
The institution says it has been experiencing blood supply shortage throughout the year due to declining number of donors.
Spokesperson Sifiso Khoza says, “We need 3 000 units of blood every single day. And unfortunately, we never get enough donators coming forward. We’ve got less than 1% of South African population who are blood donors. This is a special appeal to all the listeners to please find 30 minutes of their time and visit one of our blood donor centre or our mobile units to donate one unit of blood knowing that one unit of blood can save up to three lives.”
