SAMWU workers down tools at EC municipality

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Scores of SAMWU workers at the newly established Raymond Mhlaba Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape have downed tools following allegations of nepotism and maladministration in the municipality.

The municipality includes the small towns of Middledrift, Alice, Seymour, Bedford and Adelaide.

The workers have shut down all the municipal offices in the area.

Residents are unhappy: “They have not collected refuse for a number of weeks now if you can go down the streets you see what I am talking about. I believe there is one truck that is working between the towns here including Bedford.”

“It automatically affects the community but we know that this is not going to be a sustainable process. We want the councilors to see that the community is not happy about this nepotism and cadre deployment.”
