Municipal workers union Samwu says it’s written to the of the Ekurhuleni city manager to demand that pre-suspension hearing against two Metro police officers not go ahead.
The Ekurhuleni Metro police officers appear on a video brandishing pile of cash in take-away containers. Some have called for them to be published to show that the public can’t just buy their way around law enforcement officers.
However, Samwu’s Papikie Mohale says it’s just mere speculation that the money in possession of the officers was the proceeds of crime.
“These employees have not committed any criminal act, in fact based on our interactions with them these are individuals who just graduated from the training college. They are happy that they are finally seeing that little money that they were parading there. There’s nothing wrong and it’s not a criminal offence,” says Mohale.
