SAMAs celebrates 25 years Extravaganza

The organisers of the South African Music Awards say this year’s extravaganza should be regarded as the highlight of the evolution of music in South Africa.

The SAMAs celebrated 25 years of existence Saturday night at Sun City in Rustenburg, North West.

The chairperson of the Recording Industry of South Africa, RISA Sipho Dlamini says, “I think one of the highlights for me was TKZEE and they won. I think it’s 4 SAMAs in one year and a number of other amazing performances of over the years, and it’s great that we have to relive that tonight.

“So tonight is the journey of the past 25 years of key winners and key performers and contributors to the music industry,” adds Dlamini.

The winners include among others Nasty C for the Best Hip Hop album, Sjava for Best Afro Pop Album and Spirit of Praise for Best Traditional Faith Music Album.

Lady Zamar has walked with Sampra Highest Airplay of the Year.

The MEC for Sports, Arts and Recreation in North West, Tsotso Tlhapi says the event is a big contributor to the economy of the province.

“We are happy as the province to host the SAMA Awards more especially for three years , we had a very wonderful relationship and we are very happy as the province to host this , because especially when you are here you are bringing a lot of money . So we are happy that is why we are saying you must keep coming to the North West.”
