SAHRC to consult with ‘racist’ Limpopo doctor

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The Human Rights Commission says it will sit down with a Limpopo doctor to persuade him to stop discriminating between patients on the basis of colour. Failing that, the HRC will take him to court.  HRC investigators, who visited the doctor’s practice in Mokopane on Wednesday, found there are separate consultation rooms and bathrooms for white and black patients.

HRC investigator Victor Mavhidula says, “What is happening there is  clear discrimination that everyone can see. Even when you get to the consultation room, it is a different environment. They have created two receptions, the other one for white the other one for blacks, even the diaries that are being used, if you are a black person you have to use another diary and white people are using another diary.”

Meanwhile, police had to be called in after an altercation broke out between a patient and one of the investigators.
