The South African Football Association will submit documents on Friday expressing its interest to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
South Africa will be up against Egypt who on Thursday officially signalled its willingness to take over from Cameroon as hosts – a day before the deadline for candidates.
Egypt entered the fray after Morocco, long thought to be interested in standing in for Cameroon, pulled out of contention in a surprise announcement.
Cameroon was stripped as host because of a lack of preparedness, and will now host the 2021 tournament.
