The South African Football Association (SAFA), in Cape Town has accused the City of failing to maintain the Athlone stadium. On Saturday, various sports organisations came out in support of a SAFA placard demonstration along  Klipfontein road to highlight their opposition to the City’s decision to move their operations to the nearby Vygiestraal Stadium.

The City issued an instruction to all occupants of the stadium to move out of the facility by the end of January. This is due to various non-compliance issues with national safety regulations. But Cape Town’s SAFA, president Bennett Bailey, says he’s not happy with the decision.

” We ask a simple question to the City of Cape Town, please fix our facilities, SAFA has been served with the notice to vacate our offices by the 31 of January , we haven’t left yet , we going no where, this is the home of football. The City wants to move us and dislodge us from our base, its really to make us radarless so that we float and have nothing to stand on and we not going to allow that.”
