The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU) in Limpopo says it has learnt with shock the passing of a teacher at a marking centre in Tivumbeni outside Tzaneen in Limpopo. Details on how the teacher died are still uncertain.

The Department of Education says it will comment at a later stage after getting a formal incident report.

Police spokesperson, Motlafela Mojapelo was also contacted and said he was still getting information on the incident.

SADTU Provincial Secretary, Sowell Tjebane has passed a message of condolences to the family of the teacher.

He says other challenges at the centre such as electricity have been resolved.

“We have also learnt with great shock about the passing of one marker at Tivumbeni marking centre and one of the key challenges at Tivumbeni when there was the first cohort of markers, there was an issue of electricity and that was taken or switched off,” says Tjebane.
