The search is continuing for the Umbilo Temple’s Aaradhya that was allegedly stolen from the premises at the weekend.

Aaradhya, an 18-month-old jersey cow was popular among devotees of the Shree Ambalavanar Alayam, with people coming from far and wide to feed and view it.

The temple is now waiting CCTV footage from a nearby gas station, where eyewitnesses claim to have seen a bakkie transporting a cow that matched Aaradhya’s description.

The temple’s resident priest Guru Dhanasagren Govender says that the temple is appealing to the community and the devotees to be on alert for the cow as she is sacred in the sense that she was donated to the temple.

“On Saturday the 4th of November at about 10:15, our cow was stolen from the temple premises. I was alerted by one of our temple employees, we gave chase but we could not see the vehicle or the cow. She is 18 months old, white and brown with a little bit of black,” says Govender.
