Reading Time: < 1 minute

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in North West has condemned acts of vandalism, torching of public and individual property and the obstruction of medical professionals from performing their work.

Large scale looting has been reported in Taung, Ngaka Modiri Molema, Kleksdorp and Potchefstroom. The SACP Provincial Chairperson Smuts Matshe says they however remain resolute that Mahumapelo must step down.

“SACP remains resolute that Mahumapelo must step down or be recalled, but is worried by and strongly condemns acts of vandalism, torching of public and individual property and the obstruction of medical professionals from performing their work.  The right to life is fundamental. No person must engage in any form of conduct whatsoever to expose other people`s right to life to any form of danger. In particular, medical professionals must not be prevented from entering our hospitals and clinics to see their patients and perform their work to save their lives.”

Meanwhile, police say they have started with a process to retrieve property looted from retailers by criminal elements.
