SABC to broadcast 2019 Rugby World Cup final

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) will broadcast the the 2019 Rugby World Cup final between South Africa and England on Saturday.

The broadcast of the final follows an agreement between SABC and SuperSport. It will be broadcast live on SABC 2 on Saturday at 11h00.

According to the agreement, SABC 2 will also broadcast the match for the 3rd place playoff between New Zealand and Wales on Friday the 1st of November at 11h00.

SABC’s Group Chief Executive officer (GCEO) Madoda Mxakwe says the public broadcaster is excited to be able to bring this historic game to the nation.

“The SABC is excited to be able to bring this historic game to the nation, as the public broadcaster recognises the role it plays in social cohesion, nation building and promoting sports of national interest.”

Mxakwe further says the SABC remains committed to entering into commercially viable agreements. “We remain committed to entering into commercially viable agreements and we support and wish the Springboks well as they pursue a place in history.”

DA welcomes Multichoice, SABC deal 

The Democratic Alliance says it welcomes the agreement between Multichoice and SABC Sport to broadcast the final of the Rugby World Cup this weekend.

The party’s spokesperson on Communication, Phumzile van Damme, says this will enable many South Africans, who do not have access to DSTV channels to watch the match between the Springboks and England as well as the third place play off game on Friday.

“We’re happy that South Africans who cannot afford DSTV can be afforded the opportunity to watch ama Bokko Bokko play in the RWC. We say to Springboks “bring it home”.
