SABC takes election debates to the people

Town Hall debates
Reading Time: 2 minutes

The SABC is taking the election debate to the people. Various radio stations will get their election program going with current affairs roadshows starting this Friday ahead of the 2019 National and Provincial elections.

Lesedi FM, UKhozi FM, Motsweding FM and Ligwalagwala FM will be the first stations from the Public Service broadcaster to launch such programs.

All four shows will run between 1 hour and 2 hours each. The shows are aimed at promoting the public broadcaster’s mandate to educate and inform the public by taking the programs to where the people are.

SABC national radio current affairs editor, Angie Kapelianis says the roadshows will target places that are usually neglected.

Listen to Kapelianis below:

She says as part of the SABC News mandate and slogan to be independent and impartial, she has asked the teams to engage with political parties both big and small, including civil society organisations and more importantly the residents.

Listen to Kapelianis’ comment on being inclusive of diverse views:

These roadshows will continue leading up to the 8 May, 2019 National and Provincial elections to get South Africans engaging on matters that are troubling them.
