SABC sends condolences to Masekela’s family

The SABC has sent its condolences to the Masekela family, for the passing of the legendary Jazz musician.

Hugh Masekela played a pivotal role in advocating for freedom during the apartheid era.

He also gained international recognition by travelling the world to spread the message of hope through his music for South Africans who were in exile.

Masekela’s craft bears testimony that music is a universal language that brings people together as it was appreciated by South Africans and music lovers from all walks of life.

He played a significant role to assist the SABC to achieve its public service mandate which is to educate and entertain the people of South Africa.

The public broadcaster says his immense contribution to the music industry and to humanity will never be forgotten.

The SABC has ensured that his legacy will live on, through his music that will continue to be played on all its platforms.

Earlier, Yvonne Chaka Chaka also paid tribute to the Masekela family.
