Reading Time: < 1 minute

The SABC says it’s ready to meet with trade unions BEMAWU and CWU today in an attempt to end the strike by the public broadcaster’s members of staff across the country.

The workers, affiliated the two unions downed tools yesterday morning.

They are demanding a ten per cent salary increase.

The SABC is offering a four-point-five per cent pay hike, back-dated to October, instead of April.

BEMAWU president Hannes du Buisson says the CCMA has offered to facilitate the wage negotiations.

“We received communication from the SABC and the CCMA in terms of section 150 of the labour relations act where they asked to mediate in the matter with the consent of the parties and we have consented to that mediation and we await the invitation from the CCMA and the SABC.”
