The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Mpumalanga Region has expressed sadness at the passing of former radio presenter Daniel Frans “DF” Simelane.

Simelane died earlier this week on COVID-19 related complications. He was 64.

Simelane joined the SABC in 1982. He took early retirement in 2010 after serving the public broadcaster for almost three decades.

He will be laid to rest on Thursday. The funeral service will take place at his home in Piennaar.

Mpumalanga Regional Operations Manager, Hosea Jiyane says the SABC family sends heartfelt condolences to the Simelane family.

“For the period he spent in the newsroom I don’t even remember once discussing something that was not up to standard in terms of what was expected from him. I wish these are some of the lessons the colleagues right now could sort off, remember those kinds of examples that people like him have set for us. To our country it is a loss, to the SABC as he was part of the pensioners of the SABC, we would like to convey our condolences  to the family.”
