SABC dismissal policies not fair for employees

Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Communications has raised concerns over allegations that the SABC management does not follow its own policies and processes when dismissing employees.

This was raised at a meeting between the committee and labour unions representing SABC employees in Sandton, north of Johannesburg on Friday.

The committee has received various concerns in relation to general challenges faced by employees in the organisation.

Committee Chairperson Humphrey Maxegwana says the leadership of the organisation must create an environment that will enable consultation between management and its employees.

“We should also talk to the board and management of the SABC on the question of dismissed workers, those who were dismissed because of the medical aid.”

“And the structural problems within the SABC, we think these are the issues that are creating problems. Other issues that we think are important are legislation issues. The union and management must talk.”
