Reading Time: < 1 minute

Negotiations between South African Airways (SAA) and unions have ended at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) in Johannesburg. The media will be briefed on Sunday morning on the outcome of the meeting.

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) has called on government and SAA to urgently intervene in the ongoing strike at the airline.

SAA workers and the South African Cabin Crew Association (Sacca)  embarked on a wage strike which started on Friday nationwide.

The unions are demanding an 8% salary increase while SAA is offering 5.9% , depending on the availability of funds. SAA also says it will implement its restructuring plan which will lead to the retrenchment of more than 900 staff.
