The Commission for Gender Equality has marked Human Rights Day by appealing to society to make sure that the rights of women and children are protected at all times.

The commission says it’s concerned over an increase in the human rights violations of these vulnerable groups.

The Commission says during this month, it has embarked on various activities to create awareness about the plight of women and create platforms for them to speak out.

Spokesperson Javu Baloyi says, “Human rights violation of women and girl children are on the rise. We need to stand up as people of this country, we need to remember the words of Nelson Mandela, we need to remember the words of Mama Albertina Sisulu who were fighting for the rights of women, and the rights of children in SA.”

“As people of this country, we need to make sure that kids are safe and women are safe, and also as men we must join hands to support them in their endeavours for gender equality in the country,” adds Baloyi.
