SA urged to help those affected by storm

Humanitarian and relief organisation, Gift of the Givers, has appealed to South Africans to open their hearts as the New Year kicks off and help those affected by the severe storm that hit Gauteng on Saturday, killing two people.

Hundreds of families in informal settlements lost their homes, mainly in Johannesburg and on the West Rand.

Allaudin Sayed from Gift of the Givers says they have been assisting the affected families, but need all the help they can get.

“I think the first thing is building material. That is corrugated iron, plastic sheets and of course food that’s very important. Lots of them have lost their stoves and so I think food is really a necessity. Blankets, we’ve brought in some blankets and mattresses. So these are the important items that they need.”
