Rugby Union CEO, Jurie Roux, has been ordered to repay R37 million to Stellenbosch University. Advocate Alasdair Sholto-Douglas, who was appointed arbitrator in the matter in 2019, has found that Roux had allocated millions from the institution’s coffers in unbudgeted expenditure to the Maties rugby club.

This was a breach of the terms of his contract during his tenure at the university’s finance department.

Roux was found to not have acted in the University’s best interests. He held various leadership positions at the rugby club before he was appointed the head of SARU in 2013.

The Executive Council of SA Rugby says it has noted the outcome of the arbitration process involving Roux and his former employer, Stellenbosch University. Advocate Alasdair Sholto-Douglas, who was appointed arbitrator in the matter last.
