SA reports 581 new COVID-19 cases

South Africa has reported 581 new COVID-19 cases, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed infections to 3 713 833. The increase represents a 4.5% positivity rate.

According to the NICD, “Due to the ongoing audit exercise by the National Department of Health (NDoH), there may be a backlog of COVID-19 mortality cases reported. Today, the NDoH reports four deaths and of these, one occurred in the past 24-48 hours. This brings the total fatalities to 99 970.

23 757 304 tests have been conducted in both the public and private sectors.

There has been an increase of 21 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours. The following table is a summary of reported COVID-19 admissions by sector.
