South Africa has recorded 2 338 new coronavirus cases, taking the total number of cases to date to 744 732. The country has also recorded 65 new COVID-19 related fatalities in the last cycle.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in the Eastern Cape.
“Regrettably, we report 65 more COVID-19 related deaths: 37 from Eastern Cape; 18 from the Free State; 1 from Gauteng; 1 from KwaZulu-Natal; and Western Cape 8,” says Dr Mkhize. This brings the total number of deaths to 20 076.
The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 5 063 457.
Recoveries now stand at 690 903 which translates to a recovery rate of 92.7%.
