SA records new 7 502 COVID-19 cases, 573 related deaths

On Wednesday the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) reported 7 502 new coronavirus infections, bringing the total number of cases to 2 554  240.

The increase represents an 18.9% positivity rate. As per the National Department of Health, a further 573 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 75 774 to date.

About 15 363 298 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors.

PROVINCIAL BREAKDOWN

The majority of new cases today are from KwaZulu-Natal (26%), followed by Western Cape (23%).

Gauteng Province accounted for 17%; Eastern Cape accounted for 13%; Free State accounted for 6%; Mpumalanga and North West each accounted for 5% respectively; Limpopo Province accounted for 3% and Northern Cape accounted for 2% of today’s new cases.
