The Health Department has recorded 998 new COVID-19 cases, taking the number of total infections to 1 505 586 in the last 24 hours.
There have been a further 263 COVID-19 related deaths in the country, bringing the national death toll to 49 413.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in KwaZulu-Natal.
“Regrettably, we report 263 more COVID-19 related deaths: 51 from Eastern Cape, 27 from the Free State, 39 from Gauteng, 60 from KwaZulu-Natal, 55 from Limpopo, 0 from Mpumalanga, 0 from North West, 3 from Northern Cape and 28 from the Western Cape,” says Dr Mkhize.
The cumulative total number of tests conducted to date is 8 932 950.
The total number of recoveries stands at 1 419 459.
