SA records 9 580 new coronavirus cases, 497 new deaths reported on Tuesday

South Africa has recorded 9 580 new coronavirus cases, taking the total number of cases to date to 1 021 451.

The country has also recorded 497 new COVID-19 related fatalities on Monday.

In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in the Western Cape.

“Regrettably, we report 497 more COVID-19 related deaths: 137 from Eastern Cape, 3 from the Free State, 68 from Gauteng, 114 from KwaZulu-Natal, 13 from Limpopo, 2 from Mpumalanga, 2 from Northern Cape and 158 from the Western Cape,” says Dr Mkhize.

This brings the total number of deaths to 27 568.

Recoveries currently stand at 858 456.

The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 6 500 482.
