South Africa has recorded 897 new coronavirus infections in the last 24-hour cycle, taking the total number to 1 584 961.
The country has also recorded 35 new COVID-19 related fatalities on Monday. This brings the total number of deaths to 54 452.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in Kwa-Zulu Natal.
“Regrettably, we report 35 more COVID-19 related deaths: Eastern Cape 2, Free State 6, Gauteng 7, Kwa-Zulu Natal 16, Limpopo 0, Mpumalanga 1, North West 0, Northern Cape 2 and Western Cape 1,” says Dr Mkhize.
Recoveries stand at 1 508 558.
The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 10 715 773.
The number of healthcare workers vaccinated under the Sisonke Protocol to date is 329 098.
