South Africa has recorded 880 new coronavirus infections in the last 24-hour cycle, taking the total number to 1 577 200.
The country has also recorded 51 new COVID-19 related fatalities on Tuesday. This brings the total number of deaths to 54 237.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in the Eastern Cape.
“Regrettably, we report 51 more COVID-19 related deaths: Eastern Cape 6, Free State 3, Gauteng 20, Kwa-Zulu Natal 9, Limpopo 0, Mpumalanga 0, North West 0, Northern Cape 2 and Western Cape 11,” says Dr Mkhize.
Recoveries stand at 1 502 986.
The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 10 567 593.
