SA records 72 new COVID-19 related fatalities

The Gauteng province has the highest number of conducted tests.

South Africa has recorded a total number of 72 coronavirus (COVID-19) related fatalities, bringing the death toll to 13 059. The country continues to see a drop in the number of new COVID-19 infections, taking the cumulative number of infections to 609 773.

In a statement, Minister of Health Dr Zweli Mkhize says, “11 deaths are from Eastern Cape, 41 from Gauteng, 12 from KwaZulu-Natal and 8 from Western Cape.”

The total number of tests conducted to date is 3 553 425 with 18 358 new tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

“The recoveries now stands at 506 470 which translates to a recovery rate of 83%”

On Sunday, Minister Mkhize said indications are that the country is over its coronavirus peak and that the number of new infections continues to decline.
