SA records 7 086 new COVID-19 cases, 82 261 deaths

A senior citizen receives a dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine.

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has recorded 7 086 new COVID-19 cases that have been identified in South Africa, which brings the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases to 2 777 659.

This increase represents a 14.4% positivity rate.

As per the National Department of Health statement, a further 431 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing the total number of fatalities to 82 261 to date.

Unpacking the COVID-19 C.1.2 variant with Dr. Richard Lessells:


A total 16 475 179 tests have been conducted in both public and private sectors.

The NICD continues the monitoring and surveillance of COVID-19 in order to inform the public health response.
