SA records 655 new coronavirus infections in the last 24-hour cycle

South Africa has recorded 655 new coronavirus infections in the last 24-hour cycle, taking the total number to 1 559 113. The country has also recorded 34 new COVID-19 related fatalities on Monday. This brings the total number of deaths to 53 356.

In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in the Eastern Cape. “Regrettably, we report 34 more COVID-19 related deaths: Eastern Cape 14, Free State 3, Gauteng 1, Kwa-Zulu Natal 1, Limpopo 0, Mpumalanga 6, North West 0, Northern Cape 0 and Western Cape 9,” says Dr Mkhize.

Recoveries stand at 1 484 356.

The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 10 154 978.

The number of healthcare workers vaccinated under the Sisonke Protocol is 289 787.
