The World Health Organisation (WHO) says South Africa has recorded an increase of 6% in cases in the past seven days despite there being a 2% decrease in the number of infections on the African continent.
This, as the country records a further 1861 new cases bringing the cumulative number of infections to 667 049.
Meanwhile, 77 more COVID-19 deaths were registered bringing the death toll to 16 283.

According to the World Health Organisation, South Africa is one of 16 countries in Africa to have recorded an increase in cases despite daily data showing lower numbers.

In a report on the continent’s latest COVID-19 developments, Niger recorded the highest increase of 350% while South Africa is one of the lowest with 6,1-percent.
29 Countries recorded a decrease in new cases with 20 of them registering a decline of more than 20%.
Overall, the continent has seen a 2% and 17% decrease in incidence cases and deaths respectively.
