The Health Department has reported 566 new cases of coronavirus, taking the number of total infections to 1 513 959.
There have been a further 84 COVID-19-related deaths in the country, bringing the national death toll to 50 077 deaths.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in the North West.
“Regrettably, we report 84 more COVID-19 related deaths: 2 from Eastern Cape, 0 from the Free State, 19 from Gauteng, 0 from KwaZulu-Natal, 0 from Limpopo, 0 from Mpumalanga, 36 from North West, 6 from Northern Cape and 21 from the Western Cape,” says Dr Mkhize.
The cumulative total number of tests conducted to date is 9 090 273.
Recoveries now stand at 1 431 336, representing a recovery rate of 94%.
