SA records 5 074 new COVID-19 cases, 45 deaths on Sunday

The Health Ministry says another 5 074 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the latest testing period – taking the overall number of cases to 1 696 564.

It’s the fourth day in a row that the number of cases has topped 5 000. Another 45 people have died from COVID-19. The death toll stands at 56 974.

The department says, “Eastern Cape 0, Free State 16, Gauteng seven, Kwa-Zulu Natal one, Limpopo 0, Mpumalanga 0, Northwest 0, Northern Cape 15 and Western Cape six.”

The recovery rate is at 93%.

The cumulative total of tests conducted to date is 11 876 594 with 35 821 new tests recorded since the last report.
