The WHO is pleased that the number of people being tested in South Africa is increasing.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has confirmed that 429 people have now died from COVID-19 and that the number of infections have risen to 22 583.

On Sunday evening, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the country will move to lockdown alert level 3 on June 1.

President Ramaphosa’s full address is in the video below:

The President says some economic activities will not be allowed to operate under level-3, including beauty services, entertainment and restaurants.

Meanwhile, tobacco sales remain prohibited under level 3 of the lockdown.

Ramaphosa says exercise will be allowed and will no longer be restricted to specific times, provided it’s not in groups.

The President says social gatherings are still prohibited and the regulations regarding no more than 50 people at funerals will remain.

He has warned that hotspots like the major metros will be monitored and could be returned to stricter lockdown levels if progress is not made against the virus.

But, he says areas with low levels of the coronavirus could be moved to levels 2 or 1 of the lockdown

This is what will be permitted during Level 3 of lockdown:
