SA records 4 645 new COVID-19 cases, 104 deaths

South Africa has recorded 4 645 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the national total of infections to 810 449. Gauteng still has the most infections provincially, accounting for 29.3% (237 207) of total cases, while the Northern Cape has recorded the least cases, accounting for 2.9% (23 414) of total cases.

A total of 104 new deaths have also been recorded. Most of the new fatalities are from the Eastern Cape, which has recorded 65 deaths.

“Regrettably, 104 more COVID-19 related deaths have been reported: Eastern Cape 65, Free State three, Gauteng seven, KwaZulu-Natal six, Mpumalanga three and Western Cape 20. This brings the total deaths to 22 067. We extend our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers that treated the deceased patients,” reads in part the statement from the Department of Health released on Saturday evening.

South Africa has conducted 5 565 928  tests, with 31 844 conducted in the last 24-hour cycle.

The private sector accounts for 58% (3 209 845) of total tests, while the public sector accounts for 42% (2 356 083).

The statement did not provide data for the recoveries.
