South Africa has recorded 4 116 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the national positive total to 814 565. Gauteng still has for the most cases, accounting for 29.2% (237 719) of total cases.
139 new deaths have been recorded, with the Eastern Cape accounting for the bulk of the new fatalities with 124.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says a total of 22 206 deaths have now been recorded in South Africa.
“Regrettably, 139 more COVID-19 related deaths have been reported: Eastern Cape 124, Gauteng one and Western Cape 14. This brings the total deaths to 22 206.”
Tests and recoveries
South Africa has conducted 5 592 663 total tests, with 26 735 of those tests conducted in the last 24-hour cycle.
The private sector accounts for 58% (3 225 900) of total tests, while the public sector accounts for 42% (2 366 763).
744 780 people have recovered from the virus.
