South Africa has recorded 3 751 new coronavirus infections in the last 24-hour cycle, taking the total number to 1 466 767.
The country has also recorded 261 new COVID-19 related fatalities on Thursday.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in KwaZulu-Natal.
“Regrettably, we report 261 more COVID-19 related deaths: 44 from Eastern Cape, 12 from the Free State, 53 from Gauteng, 56 from KwaZulu-Natal, 11 from Limpopo, 42 from the North West, 2 from the Northern Cape and 41 from the Western Cape,” says Dr Mkhize. This brings the total number of deaths to 45 605.
Recoveries currently stand at 1 327 186.
The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 8 400 319.
