SA records 3 749 fresh COVID-19 cases, 297 fatalities

The Health Department has reported 3 749 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the number of total infections to 1 470 516.

There has been 297 deaths overnight.

“Eastern Cape 49, Free State 40, Gauteng 52, Kwa-Zulu Natal 35, Limpopo 68, Mpumalanga 16, Northern Cape 2 and Western Cape 35, which brings the total to 45 902 deaths,” the department says in a statement.

The country’s recovery rate is at 90.8% with 1 335 618 South Africans having beaten the illness.

Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize has conveyed condolences to the loved ones of those who lost the fight with the virus and thanked healthcare workers for their efforts to save their lives.
