South Africa has recorded 3 641 new coronavirus infections in the last 24-hour cycle, taking the total number to 1 625 003.
The country has also recorded 61 new COVID-19 related fatalities on Thursday. This brings the total number of deaths to 55 568.
In a statement, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says most of the new deaths were recorded in Limpopo.
“Regrettably, we report 61 more COVID-19 related deaths: Eastern Cape 7, Free State 7, Gauteng 17, Kwa-Zulu Natal 4, Limpopo 19, Mpumalanga 0, North West 0, Northern Cape 12 and Western Cape 0,” says Dr Mkhize.
Recoveries stand at 1 531 993.
The cumulative number of tests conducted to date is 11 246 917.
